Funding

The New York State Legislature recently passed a bill to amend the 2007 Mental Hygiene law, which allocated funding for two centers of excellence in culturally and linguistically competent mental health. The Office of Mental Health designated two research facilities – The New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) in Norhtern Manhattan and the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) in Orangeburg, New York. Both centers were established to "investigate and disseminate best practices in the delivery of culturally competent mental health services to underserved populations affected by cultural and linguistic barriers."
