Clinical Psychology

Xavier Amador, Ph.D., Director

The Department of Clinical Psychology shares the Institute's mission of providing excellence in patient care, training, and research. The department is made up of a diverse group of over one hundred psychologists (both Ph.D. and M.A.) involved in clinical care, training, and research. New research and honors awarded are highlighted in the annual reports of the departments and divisions in which they work.
New Clinical Services and Training Programs
A neuropsychology externship program was created. Dr. Fern Leventhal is the Extern Coordinator. Two doctoral psychology students fulfilled a one-year rotation and provided neuropsychological assessments on nearly every clinical service.
New Research and Training Program
The Clinical Psychology department established a Research Mentor Matching Program (RMMP) The RMMP places doctoral and masters psychology students seeking research mentorship for their theses with NYSPI and medical center investigators with active research programs. More specifically, the RMMP:
* Places students from APA accredited programs in research settings where they can complete the research requirements for their graduate degree (M.A. and Ph.D.).
* Identifies investigators (all disciplines) interested in obtaining the help of graduate students in exchange for sponsoring a graduate thesis.

* Educates directors of doctoral psychology programs and their students on the specific research opportunities available at the NYSPI and the medical center.
