Security-System-Related Failures

 

The Institute is prepared to deal promptly and effectively with malfunctions and/or failures of any component of its security system.

Mechanical Failures

Staff will promptly report to the Safety & Security Department any observed malfunction or failure of a security system component

  • Intrusion detection device

  • Locking mechanism or security door

  • Card-access control device

Security staff will investigate the report and take action as appropriate, including

  • Summon appropriate staff to make repairs

  • Arrange alternative coverage

Staffing Shortage

  • In the event of an unexpected shortage of Safety & Security staff due to illness, disruption in hiring, or (illegal) union strike or job-action, the facility will maintain security by:

    • Instituting over-time coverage

    • Calling-in Officers from other New York State facilities in the immediate area

    • Calling-in New York State Police 

    • Temporarily "deputizing" other employees to take on duties as needed

    • Temporarily hiring private security staff
