Fire System Maintenance


The Institute maintains critical fire safety systems in proper operating condition through a program of ongoing inspection, testing and maintenance.

  • Sprinkler systems
  • Portable fire extinguishers
    • Inspection during each month by Safety & Security staff
  • Smoke and fire detection systems
    • Related systems
      • Auto-closing smoke doors
  • Communication systems
    • Fire Warden phones 

Inspection, testing and maintenance are performed by:

  • Appropriately trained facility staff
    • Safety & Security Officers
    • Engineering staff
  • Qualified outside contractors

Reports on inspections and system difficulties are presented to the Environment of Care Committee for review on a regular basis by the Chief Safety & Security Officer and/or the Plant Superintendent.
