Security of Sensitive Areas


Those areas which require a greater than standard degree of security due to various factors:

  • Presence of patients, including
    • wards
    • child day program
    • outpatient clinics
  • Presence of medical records or other confidential materials, including
    • Medical Record office
    • Dental Suite
    • Personnel Offices
    • Payroll Offices
  • Presence of hazardous materials or equipment
    • lab chemical storage areas
    • laboratories
      Dental Suite
    • radiation areas
    • boiler room
  • Presence of crucial research materials
  • Presence of lab animals
  • Presence of controlled substances
    • Pharmacy
    • Substance Use/Abuse research
  • Presence of highly-valuable items subject to theft
    • inner area of Shipping and Receiving

Greater degree of protection may include:

  • Physical structures or devices
    • Signage
    • Locked doors
    • Key-controlled elevators
    • Surveillance cameras
    • Detectors & Alarms
      • for intrusion
      • for temperature changes
  • Procedures
    • Employee awareness
      • Chief Safety & Security Officer trains all employees re security
        • at new employee orientation
        • as circumstances warrant.
      • Employees working in Sensitive Areas will approach all unknown persons who enter and inquire as to their reason for being there.

      • Report unauthorized entries to Safety Department.
