Engineering Department

Peter Reynolds, Director

The Engineering Department is responsible for maintenance, engineering, and overseeing construction and renovations in the Institute. 2001 saw a number of major projects completed or undertaken. The Kolb Conversion Project has been completed – the engineering connections between the Kolb Annex and the Old PI building have been severed, the connections have been completed to the Main PI building - and the Annex Lobby has undergone a substantial renovation, making it a very pleasant spot to sit in, or just to walk through. The Department of Developmental Psychobiology, including the new Sackler Laboratories, moved from the 5th Floor of the Annex into a newly constructed space on the 4th Floor of PI – a major construction and move effort. The vacated 5th Floor Annex is undergoing a total reconstruction to become the new Mind/Brain Institute – to be completed in the summer of 2002.

With the help of the OMH Albany-based Revitalization Team, the Maintenance Division has been repainting and refurbishing the Kolb Annex. This project will continue well into the next year, and will also include new signs for the Annex.

Plans for coming year include reorganizing the Departments of Engineering and Housekeeping along with the Storeroom into a new Facilities Management Department under the direction of Peter Reynolds; the goal being to ensure effective management and efficient coordination among these related services.
